Tha Wikid One – Cause and Infect Review By Ms. Jiggles
Tha Wikid One – Cause and Infect
If you’re not familiar with Tha Wikid One, you’re missing out, and after you read this review, you need to go to http://thawikidone.bigcartel.com/ and buy this album. Tha Wikid One follows the definition of true lyricism, the man is a beast. After going back and listening to Wikid’s older albums, hearing how his style and lyricism developed…the only thing I can compare it to is a girl going through puberty. You see her and she’s flat chested, then you see her a few years later and BLAM, this bitch has some huge ass double D titties. It leaves you staring, drooling and going “DAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYM”. This album is so gangster that a guy in prison called me up to give me a tear drop tattoo just for listening to it. It is so gangster that when I went to sleep after listening to it I woke up with a glock under my pillow. It is so fucking gangster that Al Capone came back from the grave to make me and honorary gangster for hearing it. It is….So. Goddamn. Gangster. That Tha Wikid One was given a Players Ball award for it.
The Funeral ft. Stern Savage
This song opens up with Wikid generally letting his haters know not to fuck with him, and if they’d like to, he’ll be more than happy to put them in their place. The beat is no less than boss and most definitely a banger. This is a great album opener, it’s strictly gangster. Wikid One’s flow is on point, and his lyrics are damn near perfect and totally relate to his shit talking opener. Enter Stern Savage; this man is obviously a beast. His flow is also on point and his lyrics are sick as fuck. He sounds like the last guy you’d want to fuck with. Since hearing this song I’ve had nightmares about him spitting a flow at me until my head literally explodes. Wikid One and Stern absolutely complement each other on this track.
Cash on Deck ft. Ace
I really can’t praise this song too much, personally. The beat sounds like a typical mainstream beat, as does the hook. This is something I’d expect to hear on the radio, and as soon as I heard the hook ride in, and Ace start talking, I’d turn the radio off, it’s nothing special. Ace has a soothing voice, but his lyrics and flow are mediocre. His punch lines aren’t anything to brag about, he’s not bad, but he definitely isn’t on Wikid’s level. Speaking of Wikid, he does redeem the song with his verse. His verse kind of brings the smile back to my face; the man really dominates this song.
Lonely People
I find this is one of the better songs on the album (personal preference). The way the song starts, a nicely sung melody, and after the beat drops, it’s so chill. Tha Wikid One’s presence on the hook really makes it better than it would’ve been without him. Something that never ceases to amaze me about Mr. Wikid is that even on mellow songs he doesn’t fail to bring the gangster, and bring it well. The punch-lines are dope, as I expected no less, they always are. This song, as gangster as it is, also has an emotional element to it, and the way it’s presented is hardcore from the heart.
Freeze
This song is definitely different from the rest of the album in my opinion. It starts with some old school piano intro that will make you feel sophisticated, but once that beat drops, it’s raw. If you plan on robbing someone in the future, I would recommend you hype yourself up with this song. “Freeze, put your hands up now, fall to your knees and lay the fuck down. Nobody look and nobody gets hurt, now gimmie everything that you’re worth”. Yeah…that’s just the hook. It is most definitely a cut throat song, though I feel that the voice dubs on the hook are too delayed. It throws me off a little bit, but it’s my opinion, and my goddamn review. This song had me locking all my doors and windows, and checking them frequently to make sure Wikid wasn’t about to bust into my house with a shotgun and rob me. FUCK.
A. M. G.
I’m not gonna lie; the first time I listened to the album, I sort of overlooked this song. For that, I want to smack myself. It turns out this is one of my favorite songs on this album. I think what made me overlook it is that the beat is simple. It’s not that the beat isn’t dope, because it is, but the simplicity of it tricked me, to be honest. This is the point in the album where you realize that Wikid One could most likely lyrically slaughter just about anyone. One the synth kicks in Wikid dominates the fucking world. I swear. The last line of the song gives you a glimpse of that horror core Wikid we all once knew, before he developed into this mega beast. This song as a whole is fucking beast.
Lambo Swag ft. Soso
I’ll start with this; I know a lot of people love this song; I’m not one of them. It starts with Bazaar from D12 giving Wikid One a shout out, props for that on the real. Soso spits first, and he’s not bad at first, but as his verse goes on his flow gets off. Wikids verse does have redeeming qualities, and almost saves the song…almost. The hook is the downfall, in my opinion. It sounds like…everything us underground kids hate about the mainstream. “I got that Lamborghini swag, new Ferrari swag, chillin’ in the back with a bag full of that money”. It’s worth the listen, but not my style.
Hottest In the City ft. Ace
The beat comes in pretty dope; the sample is nicely done for the beat. Ace is up first, and he does much better lyrically and with his flow than on Cash on Deck. I applaud him for this song; he redeemed himself in my book. Wikid’s flow is perfect, as is expected, but lyrically I feel he could’ve done better. His verse isn’t bad by far, but I feel like it’s below what he can do. Though, I do have to address the pauses in the beat, and the fact that both Ace and Wikid kill those pauses. This song is definitely a club banger in a good way.
Stand Up ft. Big Haps
The way the beat drops in this song is nothing less than fucking phenomenal, I adore this beat. Big Haps has a great flow and some pretty sick lyrics, if you haven’t heard him before, you should absolutely give him a listen. Wikid kills his first verse and spits impressively fast for what I’ve heard from him. The hook is very well done and very well placed and it appeases me. Wikid’s second verse is also dope, but there is a point where he’s spitting too many syllables too fast and it gets sort of jumbled in my ear hole. Big Haps second verse is also pretty serious awesomeness, and it’s established that he is fucking G.
In the Line of Fire ft. Stern Savage
Ready for war? This beat has that feel to it. Like some sort of epic battle scenario going on in my head, the beat hits hard like a Spartan bashing in the skull of his enemy. Wikid brings in the horrocore-esque lyricism and it fits perfectly. The creativity of his verse in this song is impressive and definitely original. When I say “horror core” I’m not talking your typical Juggalo bullshit either; I’m talking about violent messages presented in a way that few horror core rappers could ever compare to. It’s not so much about the shock value of the lyrics in this song then it is the presentation and delivery of them which is as close to perfect as anyone could get. Stern Savage is excellent with his lyrics and flow, but it doesn’t seem to fit the beat very well or coincide with Wikid’s verse. Stern doesn’t have the horror element that Wikid does, so it’s kind of out of place, but his verse is still very well done regardless of it not fitting this particular song.
Mr. Blue
I must say I really love this song. The beat is mellow and very relaxing; the hook has a woman singing beautifully and the concept of the song is awesome. That being said, with the beat being so mellow the entire way though, it really shows Wikid One’s flexibility with his flow. He has the ability to go hard on the rough, hardcore beats, and still be able to master the flow of a calmer beat. Props for that; I’ve heard far too many artists think they can flex their flows to fit any kind of beat and fail miserably. The lyrics the woman sings on the hook are a little thrown off by the concept of the song, but at the same time it goes perfectly with it. I’m having a hard time grasping how the hell Wikid pulled this off so nicely. The concept of the song is Wikid telling his haters to hate on, and them hating isn’t going to stop him from grinding. Their hate only fuels his motivation to be the best, and they can keep crying about him being more talented than they are. In his own way, he makes it clear that he wouldn’t be where he is musically right now without “Mr. Blue” a.k.a. his haters. I can’t think of very many artists that could have pulled this song off as amazingly well as Wikid did. For that I applaud him; shit I even give him a standing ovation.
The Last Lyricism
The beat is a nice bouncer to jam to. Every musician has that one song that is absolutely perfect, and I must say this is that song for Tha Wikid One; he is absolutely flawless on this track. Wikid’s flow is fucking dope; it has the quickness that people have come to love, and also the clarity that is needed for fast verses to be understood. The samples that are used in the song are perfectly placed and sound so dope. The punch lines are clever and have that “oh shit” factor that we all love, as well as the laugh factor that is a must. In the hook he claims that he “kills it in the booth” and this song alone backs up that claim and then some. Every element on this song is pulled together perfectly and it is one of the most amazing songs I’ve heard by Tha Wikid One to date.
Only One ft. Soso
This seems like a more emotional song, not a girly kind, but a manly kind. It starts out with a soft sample, and the beat drops in sick as fuck. The voice effects on Wikid’s first verse are awesome, it’s just a slight touch of Auto-tune, the way Auto-tune was meant to be. Soso’s verse is done pretty good lyrically, but he uses T-Painful amounts of Auto-tune, it’s definitely over saturated in it. His verses aren’t mind blowingly awesome, but they aren’t bad at all. The last verse on the song is Wikid and the way it fades out accompanied with the Auto-tune actually sounds really awesome. It’s worth the listen regardless of you stance on Auto-tune.
So Fresh
This song has one of those Barry White type sexy beats. You know what I’m talking about, that shit where you put it on and it’s a guarantee that you’ll get laid because of it. Wikid is lyrically beast in this song, and I’m not using that term lightly. Lyrically and in his flow he tears this shit up and makes it his bitch. He expresses his well-deserved ego, he’s “fresh” and “so fly” and he knows it, and he has every right to let the world know. He can back up his ego no problem, and after listening this far into the album…you can’t hate on that. He can brush the haters off like they ain’t shit and keep on with his beastliness. Again, I hate the word swag…but the best way to describe this song is purely swag.
First 48
It opens up with an audio sample that you really have to listen to in order to begin understanding the song as a whole. It’s the story of the reality that criminals face when they get in too deep. The reality of jail, police and death; the effect it has on families. This is the most real song on this album, as well as the most real song I’ve heard in a long time. The lyrics and story are extremely meaningful and when listening to it, it should have you full attention. You have to stop and listen to the story to understand. The end audio sample is the best possible way to close this song, and helps with the impact of the song. It’s amazing.
Infect ft. Lo Key & Badluck
For those of you that don’t know, Tha Wikid One was one of the original members of Infect. This song is, to me, Wikid expressing his roots. Lo Key starts the song off with his dark and dope lyrics and flow, flawless as is expected from the man. The horror core element in Tha Wikid One is expressed clearly here in his lyrics. His punch lines and flow, while horror core in nature, still have that gangster feel that is a part of Wikids style. The beat drop in this song is so dope, I have to mention it; it fits so perfectly and is so well done. Badluck spits the last verse and with it he brings the beastliness and dopeness that he is known for. His crazy lyrics and flow add the perfect element to end the song. If you’re a soldier, you bump this song loud and proud, and stay reppin’ Infect.
All in all this album is definitely dope. It has the elements that are needed in order to be a classic, and listened to for years to come. It has it flaws, like any other album does, but it is absolutely worth the listen. By that I mean it is worth the listen 8 times in a row, then on a daily basis after that. Tha Wikid One has gotten nothing but better over the years, and is definitely one of the most slept on artists in the underground today. What is wrong with people? Do they not understand how amazingly talented the man is? It blows my mind that he is so under rated, but maybe people are just stupid. Now quit reading this shit and go listen to Cause and Infect.

ISN’T THIS THAT ONE GUY FROM MISSION INFECT?!
